Essential Tanzania Safari FAQ: A Complete Guide

We’ve put together some of the questions people usually ask before booking a Safari In Tanzania.
These are the things that often come up early, when someone is still trying to understand how
Tanzania Safari Tours work and what to expect from the trip.
The answers below go over the basics and should clear up a few things before you get further into planning.

Essential Preparations

You will require a passport valid for at least six months beyond your date of departure. Most travelers require a tourist visa, which can be obtained via the Official Tanzania e-Visa Portal before arrival.

If you are transiting through or arriving from a country with a risk of Yellow Fever transmission, a valid vaccination certificate is legally required for entry.

For domestic bush flights to the Serengeti or Zanzibar, luggage is strictly limited to 15kg (33lbs) per person. This must be packed in soft-sided bags (duffels) rather than hard-shell suitcases to fit into small aircraft holds.
Yes. We require all guests to hold comprehensive travel insurance. This should specifically include emergency medical evacuation (Flying Doctors), trip cancellation, and coverage for personal theft or loss of equipment.

The Safari Experience

Days usually begin with a 6:00 AM wake-up call and a light breakfast before heading out for a sunrise game drive when predators are most active.

You will return for a hearty lunch and a "siesta" during the heat of the day. In the late afternoon, you will head out again for a sunset game drive, often concluding with "sundowners"—drinks served in the middle of the wilderness.

Your safety is our priority. While on game drives, you must remain inside the vehicle at all times unless your guide indicates otherwise. In tented camps, you will be escorted by armed rangers or Maasai guards after dark to ensure safe passage to your suite.
Certainly. Our bush chefs are highly skilled at preparing Halal, Kosher, Vegan, and Gluten-Free meals. Please provide us with your dietary profile at least 30 days prior to arrival.

Connectivity & Finance

While the Tanzanian Shilling is the local currency, US Dollars are the primary currency for tourism. Please ensure your USD notes are printed after 2013; older notes are often rejected by local banks and lodges.
Most luxury lodges offer Wi-Fi in the main lounge areas, though the speed is slower than in urban centers. Mobile signal is surprisingly good across much of the Serengeti, but we encourage guests to "unplug" to fully appreciate the wilderness.
Tipping is customary but purely discretionary. As a general guideline, we suggest $15–$20 per day for your professional driver-guide and $10 per day for the general lodge staff (usually placed in a communal tip box).
